Al Fahidi Historical District
Dubai's oldest heritage district featuring traditional wind-tower houses, art galleries, museums, and cultural centers.
About
Al Fahidi Historical District (also known as Al Bastakiya) is Dubai's most significant heritage site, preserving traditional Emirati architecture and culture. This charming neighborhood dates back to the late 19th century and features narrow lanes, wind-tower houses, and beautifully restored buildings that now house art galleries, museums, cultural centers, and authentic Arabian cafes.
The district offers a fascinating glimpse into old Dubai before the oil boom. The iconic wind towers (barjeel) were an early form of air conditioning, catching cool breezes and channeling them into homes. Today, the area is a cultural hub with the Dubai Museum, Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, and numerous art galleries showcasing local and international artists.
